Thiruvananthapuram: A month after alleged Left Cadre chopped off the beard and hair locks
of a Hindu Saint in Kerala’s Kannur, the party is again in the dock
for allegedly torturing another swami in Idukki district.
45-years-old
Ramananda, say Hindu groups was involved in social and religious activities
with the Guru Sakthi Seva Sanghom in the tribal settlement of Chinna
Parakkudi in Idukki’s Adimali.
On June
28 evening, a motely crowd of Left activists arrived at his ashram,
heckled him and then made him march all the way to the police
station branding him fake.
“They
marched him through the streets of Adimali. On the way, they stopped
at the traffic Island located in the centre of the town and pushed him
onto it even as the cadre stood around and shouted slogans calling him
a fake, “ Hindu Aikya Vedi convenor Kummanan Rajasekharan said.
“But
on reaching Adimali police station, the cops let him off as there was
not a single complaint against him so far, “ he said. Ramananda is
now recuperating at the Adimali Taluk hospital.
Kumman
claimed that the tribals who were alcoholics had mostly left the vice
due to the persistent efforts of Ramananda. This may have provoked certain
sections who wanted to take advantage of the distrust prevailing among
the masses in the wake of arrest of fake god man Santosh Madhavan, he
added.
Reached
for comments, local CPM cadre said the swami was indulging in sorcery
and other such practices which were disliked by the locals.
Meanwhile,
the Hindu activists have announced a grand reception for the swami
in Adimali town on July 2.
The groups
also aired their disapproval of the state government which they alleged
was acting in connivance with the miscreants. Sanyasis even met state governor R
L Bhatia, who has since been shifted to Bihar, and gave him a memorandum against
the alleged atrocities.
