Bangalore:
The rat snake’s visit to former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda’s
house in June second week seems to be haunting him: Gowda feels the
negative publicity his family has been getting in the last few days
must be due to the snake.
To ward
off the ‘sarpa dosha’ (evil through snake), Gowda had a day-long
homa at his residence on Wednesday. For the homa, 101 priests along
with their family members from Ahobila mutt in Chennai were specially
invited. The priests known to perform pooja mainly for Lord Lakshmi
Narasimhaswamy, came to Gowda’s residence on Tuesday night in four
buses. Sources close to Gowda said
he and his eldest son H D Balakrishne Gowda personally welcomed the
Chennai guests. “The head priest entered the house catrying the Lord’s
peetham, then he was foIlowed by other priests and family members,”
they added.

The homa,
besides to ward off sarpa-dosha, was also performed to shield his son-CM
H D Kumaraswamy from evils. Based on the priests’ advice, Gowda is
reported to have sunk a borewell in the premises of his spouse where
the homa was performed. Gowda’s another son-minister H D Revanna,
who is also superstitious, performed Satyanarayana pooja at his official
residence here on Saturday.
