BANGALORE:
Though JD(S) has faced a humiliating defeat in the polls the Gowda siblings
- H D Kumaraswamy and H D Revanna have a reason to smile: Not only because
they won, but they finally proved their astrologers wrong.
Former
PM H D Deve Gowda’s family astrologers had warned that the family
members would face defeat against woman candidate (after Deve Gowda
lost against Tejeswini Ramesh in 2004 parliamentary elections).

Sensing
this, the Congress had pitted Mamta Nichani, daughter of former CM late
Ramakrishna Hegde, and S G Anupama, daughter of Congress leader late
Puttaswamy Gowda, against Kumaraswamy and Revanna respectively. The
Gowda siblings had initially turned a bit jittery. But they made up
their mind to go ahead and vowed to defeat the Congress’ strategy.
Kumaraswamy
in Ramanagar registered a thumping victory with over 47,000 votes margin
against his nearest rIval. He polled around 71,000 votes. Ironically,
Mamta Nichani is relegated to the third place with 23,678 votes. It
was Rudresh of the BJP who came second with around 24,000 votes.
In Holenarasipura,Revanna
won with a margin of 27,000 votes, polling a total of 77,000 votes.
Anupama came second with 49,000 votes.
Mamta
Nichani’s defeat doesn’t seem to have come as a surprise to
her as well as the Congress. The Congress leaders did not show
the same kind of enthusiasm in campaigning for her as they did during
selecting her candidature. Though it is said Congress supreme
Sonia Gandhi herself selected. Nichani to pit against Kumaraswamy,
hardly any top leaders of the party campaigned for her.
Moreover,
she couldn’t reach out to all seeking vote in the very less time she
had for campaign. Also, she was too new to the electoral politics to
take on. Kumaraswamy. Whereas the former CM had done his ‘home-work’
well in the constituency.
