Thiruvananthapuram:
Senior RSS functionary and convener of Hindu Aikya Vedi, a conglomerate
of Hindu groups, Kummanan Rajasekharan has admiitted that bringing about
a consensus to effect a change in the rules governing Guruvayur temple
was not easy. He was referring to Thursday’s declaration by the
tantri that bar on entry of non-Hindus into the temple would not
be lifted.
He urged
the core committee comprising the tantri to “co-operate”
in efforts to usher in changes “keeping in mind the larger interests
of the society”. “Nobody is demanding a change in rituals. The demand
is for changing customs, which are man-made. Temple customs have always
been subject to change. For instance, if the texts are to be strictly
followed, the flag mast in front of temple should be made of wood. Even
the procedure was prescribed. But now-a-days, masts made of concrete
are used,” he added.
